they seldom add much to the gameplay and by the PS4 games, it's all a bit of an over complicated mess. One thing to keep in mind about the Diva series is that the developers decided that each new game needed to have some new mechanic, simply for the sake of having a new mechanic.

Conversely, playing the PS3 version gives you a bigger screen which makes it easier to see everything. Re: Project Diva, both versions are "good," but if you don't have the sharpest reflexes you might prefer the Vita version, as having the buttons cluttered closer together makes it a bit easier to get perfect scores on the hardest difficulty.
Yeah, I dunno if you have a 3DS (I think it's on iOS, too) but the handful of tracks from Nier in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy were among my most-played. The parent/child dynamic is a lot more compelling IMHO, and the companion relationships also work better, I think, with the PC in a more parental role (the companions are basically all broken children who need help, no matter how old or bizarre they are physically).Īnd did I mention that the soundtrack is phenomenal?Īlso, if you're gonna go for the plat, or are a completionist, you'll want to use a guide for the sidequests, as there's a time skip halfway through the game, and any quests you miss, you'll miss. The difference is that the heroes are different: in the Japanese version, you play as a effeminate young man and the plot hinges on his relationship to his little sister in the Western version, you're a gruff, adult man instead-and the girl is your daughter. If you don't know much Japanese, you probably won't get muchout of it, but again, I'm fairly sure there's a translation guide on GameFAQs.Īnd if you dunno where to get 'em, the best sites to import games are Play-Asia and AmiAmi. A Japan-only samurai spin-off of the Yakuza series. Easily the best-looking Gundam game to date, and it has a bunch of playable MSVs, which is always fun. A super cinematic Gundam game focused on arcadey space combat. Plus I'm pretty sure there's a translation guide on GameFAQs. It's action combat, so the language barrier doesn't matter much. end up zipping around through the sky at insane speeds. Great story mode, fantastic giant robot combat. I don't remember the exact URL, but if you search "RedShoulders" you should find it pretty easily. Plus, there's an excellent translation guide out there that'll let you play through the ya,e easily even if you don't know any Japanese. It's also got a very solid, super fanservice, and "canon" story set in the Macross universe, so if you're a !across fan, it's a must-play.

There are tons of different aircraft to play with, a robust upgrade system, and really phenomenal combat. It's a semi open-world ARPG where you pilot a mech that can more or less transform into a humanoid robot, helicopter and fighter jet. In addition to what others have said, I'd strongly recommend Nier to any fan of Final Fantasy (astonishingly good music, bonkers setting with crazy mythology and oodles of weirdness) as well as the Yakuza series-specifically 3, 4 and 5.īeyond that, there are a number of Japanese titles that are well worth your time. Honestly these days the PS3 doesn't exactly have the best stable of exclusives, especially if you don't take the backwards compatibility into consideration (EG Suikoden II, Xenogears, Breath of Fire IV, etc.)
